Pets are a wonderful addition to a household, Never underestimate a woman who loves horses and was born in September shirt and the ones in my life are a constant source of joy and love. With that said, from a legal standpoint, pets are property. Pets are a luxury and responsibility. The idea of the government giving tax breaks and mandating employers to make allowances for employees who own specific property is ludicrous. It would be like tax breaks for people who have antique cars that require constant maintenance and forcing employers to give leave to employees so they can go to car shows. If a person can not afford the responsibilities (including the time involved in their care) that come with owning a pet, then they shouldn’t get a pet. It is not a place where the government should subsidize, reward, or incentivize the owners of a specific kind of property. I don’t use insurance. The premiums are too expensive if you have a zillion dogs. I usually have about eight. Right now I have ten.
I “paid myself premiums” until I had enough money in the Never underestimate a woman who loves horses and was born in September shirt bank to cover two serious emergencies at the same time. I always reserve that much money, just in case. This means that I have saved a wHole lot of money because I only had to build up the bank account once, rather than paying insurance premiums every year for twenty-five years. My largest expenses not related to breeding occurred when my first dog had cancer and I tried chemotherapy. That was expensive, but I had plenty of money available to cover it. Breeding is enormously expensive, but those expenses are never unexpected and besides, I doubt insurance will cover that kind of thing. It shouldn’t. No one should ever breed their dog casually or to make money. Back when I looked into it, insurance would cover only a percentage of expenses or it would cover only one kind of treatment and not another kind, no matter what was better for an individual dog. I like having charge of the money myself so I don’t have to argue about that kind of thing with the insurance company. But maybe less restrictive insurance is available now. I haven’t looked into it for decades.
